Born in Beit Leif (Bint Jbeil), south Lebanon, in 1954; Son of Fahed Homyed.
Sect: Shiite.
Marital status: Married to Nouhad El Husseini, with two children Farah
and Amal.
Education: License in Arabic
Literature, Lebanese University (1982).
Background: Joined Amal Movement since its
foundationin 1973, and was placed in charge of the Movement's activities in South Lebanon;
Head of Amal Movement's Educational Bureau in Beirut in 1979; Amal Movement's chief
organizer in Beirut; General Director of the Ministry of Information (1985); Amal
Movement's Executive Council President following the assassination of Daoud Daoud in 1987.
Amal Movement's Vice President.
Political Career: Elected deputy for Bint
Jbeil, South Lebanon, in 1992. Reelected in 1996, 2000 and 2005 on Speaher Berri's
Resitance and Development List. Appointed Minisiter of Social Affairs in Rafic Hariri's
third government (November 7, 1996 to December 3, 1998). Appointed minister of Energy and
Water in Hariri's fifth cabinet (April 17, 2003 - October 26, 2004). Member of the
Resistance and Development Bloc of House Speaker Nabih Berri.
